Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony
Midwest Music Festival
Saturday February 25th, 2012

Our large ensemble festival for the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band is coming up on Saturday, February 25th. The festival is a required event for each performing ensemble and will take place in the morning. Information, a schedule, and directions are attached in this letter.

Description of event:
The Midwest Music Fest is one of the largest concert band festivals in the Chicago-land area. There are 40 high schools represented at the festival and the judging is outstanding. The festival is competitive in nature with caption awards for percussion, brass, woodwinds, and esprit de corps.

Location and time:
The symphonic band will perform at 9:30AM and the wind symphony will perform at 10:30AM. The early performance times are to allow winter percussion students to return to school to leave for their IPA show. We are also performing early so that students can return to help out with the craft fair.

All students should arrive at school at 7:00AM. The bus will leave at 7:30 for Lemont.

Lemont High School is located at 800 Porter St. Lemont, IL.

Parent attendance and chaperones:
Ticket prices for the day are $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for students. Performers do not need to buy tickets. This event will take place on the Saturday of our Spring Craft Fair, so any parents that would like to attend that are also volunteering for the craft fair might want to work their schedules accordingly.

Student dress:
Dress for the performance is full concert uniform.

Please return the permission form on Tuesday, February 21st.

Have you signed up yet?

We still really, really need Parent help for the craft show. If you haven’t signed up for a shift yet, please do so as soon as you can!

As spring draws near, there is just one thing on the hearts and minds of us all:

The VJA Music Parents Spring Craft Show

The craft show is February 25-26, 2012, which isn’t that far away, so it’s time to start signing up to volunteer. We will need volunteers for Friday the 24th, Saturday the 25th, and Sunday the 26th.

Now, of course, we look forward to seeing the “usual suspects” who always help out but we’d love to see some new faces too! So, whether you’re an old hand or a newbie, please consider donating your time to this fundraiser which helps to fund the music programs at our school!

AMP Parent Meeting – February 9th

Hello All Music Parents-

I wanted to send out a reminder that the next Andrew Music Parent meeting will be held at 7:30pm this Thursday, February 9th in the choir room. Also, I wanted to take a moment and mention to all members of the Music Parent Association that nominations for next year’s Officers will begin after the Music Parent meeting scheduled for March 15th. A member of the Music Parent Association is considered a parent or legal guardian of a student participating in either the music or guard programs offered at Andrew High School.

All Officer positions are open to nominations including, President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. In order to be eligible for a nomination, or if necessary to vote in an election, the member must have attended and signed in at least 3 Music Parent meetings during the school year. Attendance at the Music Parent meetings scheduled for Thursday, February 9th and March 15th will count towards the minimum requirement. Attached is a list of the members who have attended the Music Parent meetings thus far during the 2011-2012 school year and the number of meetings attended.

Please consider attending all the upcoming meetings not only to be eligible for a nomination but to get the inside scoop first hand regarding upcoming concerts, musicals, winter percussion competitions and fundraisers. I hope to see everyone on Thursday, February 9th.

Sincerely,
Marta Krysztopik
President – Andrew Music Parent Association

Weekly Reminders

Hello Music Families,

This week we have the District 230 Jazz fest which involves the jazz ensemble. The students will need to bring their dress clothes to school as we will leave right at the end of the day. The festival is held at Stagg and there will be a concert featuring all three schools and the DePaul Jazz Ensemble at 7PM. It is free and at the Stagg PAC.

On Thursday, the wind symphony will travel to Lincoln Way Central for the SWSC festival. They will receive a clinic on music they are preparing for spring concerts and contests. Please make sure you get your permission forms in. This is a required performance, so please make sure you get all of your work ahead of Thursday. Students should report to the band room at the beginning of 4th hour and we will return before the end of the day.

We have a basketball game this week. Pep band A and anyone else who would like to join in supporting our winning basketball team will be on for Friday. Report to the band room at 5:30 PM.

Lastly, Congratulations to Andrew Percussion for this past weekends performance at Vandercook College of Music. They were a featured clinic group GIVING the clinic as a conclusion of the Vandercook Day of Percussion. Percussion directors, music ed students, band directors, and other high school percussionists were all in attendance as a huge crowd. Alan, Matt, and Mike all spoke to how we do things a bit differently here at VJA in regards to percussion and marching band. It was extremely well received and they certainly put us on the map if we weren’t already. Great event!

A quick reminder as well, there will be wind auditions on the 27th of this month beginning at 5 PM. Please write a quick note to Mr. I if you need a special time. Have a great week!

Parent Meeting!

Its that time again! Time to get together in the Choir Room for our Parent Meeting to discuss just what our kids are doing in the music department lately. So, be sure to join us:

February 9, 2012

7:30pm in the Choir Room

The VJA Music program has completed another very successful first half of the season and feedback is important on how you felt things were handled and any suggested improvements. There will be a forum as part of the upcoming meeting and topics can range from band camp to competitions, props, chaperoning, craft fair, fundraisers, choir, musicals, and/or communications.

We look forward to your participation at the meeting as hearing from you only helps strengthen the VJA Music Program as an organization in continual support of our children.

All those involved in the Golf Outing Committee please see Rich Szilagyi or Mario Nicasio immediately following the meeting!
